How long does it take for a new site to rank for terms in Google? I've heard about sandbox effect and some new domains are put into a sandbox until the domain has aged but I'm seeing one of my new domains already get decent ranking for a couple keywords(insignificant keywords) Is this possible?

yes its possible, my new site started getting traffic from google in a few days

the key is to keep adding more content which google loves :)

That's very encouraging. Thank you.

yeah, the sandbox normally applies to competitive terms. As long as you have some good links to start with, Google will find and index your site. Make sure you have good file structure and well titled pages and you will probably start seeing small amounts of google traffic pretty quick. You will need to play the SEO game to get big traffic though :)

just make sure the content that you add arent just images without any tags or links without titles. adding some text also helpes so its better to add some text to news every week or so to get googles inetntion.

Generally any site can rank for 2nd tier search terms like movie myspace layouts, myspace layout generator and others. As for 1st tier search terms like myspace layouts, myspace codes and other more competative keywords you probably wont have a chance of ranking in the top 50 for at least 6 months or more

Very well put and true. My hi5 site ranked within days and I have kept updating it and google seems to love it. Normally I find google is the hardest to rank with but not this time. I must have done something right :)

I still find that odd that people think its difficult to rank in Google even for 2nd tier keywords...I always seem to do pretty well with G while Yahoo hates every site I put out....go fig

I don't really have a problem ranking for 2nd tier keywords. I actually ranked well for a few after a few days of releasing my sites...2nd page after a few days on one of them. Right now I'm on the first page for 2 good 2nd tier keywords and working on some others as well.

best way to get a new site ranking really quick (in google) is to use an old domain :)

I seem to have that problem with Yahoo as well. Maybe they want you to pay for their directory submission?

I had asked an seo expert about Y! Directory submission. She said it doesn't help except for the pr.

Submitting to the Y directory does not help your ranking just PR and a little traffic. Well I just checked my newest MSLS site and its ranking page 1 #10 for hot myspace layouts and page 1 #5 for music myspace layouts in G :)
