So, the general consensus is that it is practically impossible for newbs to get into YPN with a myspace site... so, I'm wondering, what types of sites have a relatively good chance of getting in? How are they with accepting blogs? if anyone knows, share.

when I got in I think the last quarter of 2005, I applied with a fansite and got approved 3 weeks later.

If you have any vacant domains kicking around you could use vendors from CJ/Linkshare/Sharesale to set up a storefront website with just about any line of products.

Why don't they accept Myspace related sites?

i think because there are not much advertisers that show ads that are "myspace sites" related :D

IMHO, some ad firms are tightening up on MS sites because some are bringing in relatively low-quality traffic, i.e., low relative CTR and/or conversion ratios as compared to their average publisher sites.
For CPM ads, I try to place them so that they will get a decent CTR. For YPN, I experiment with the ad categories so the best CTR and CPC can be achieved.
Hope that helps.

you may get banned but for the amount of money you make it is worth the risk

If a site is earning a lot of revenue, so is the ad company. They'll love the extra profits.
However, I agree that if a site's payout is large and the quality of its traffic is poor, they might decide to pull the plug on that site for good.

I got accepted last year and haven't implemented the ads yet. I run a blog.

I think they don't like ms sites because most of the clicks don't convert and some sites lost ypn because of too much foreign traffic.

they dont convert well, but is that our fault or yahoo's fault for not serving relevant ads?

It's absolutely YPN's fault, a huge company like that shouldn't still be in beta after 2 years! It's getting worse and worse because advertisers are jumping ship.
The CEO is an ex hollywood guy, so, it's like an ex oil guy trying to run a country.. ;)
Plus, they only count half of your clicks since around Dec...

Mostly blogs and such are getting accepted nowadays, even though, they rates are getting similar to adsense ones.

ypn is currently crap imo. Targetting is a cruel joke and when you think you have it setup properly you get served Mazda ads on a health site! go figure..
for those that arent in yet, dont let the hype fool you. Stick with G and get decent targetted ads that actually serve your end users better

i agree that the ypn ad targeting is not perfect, but i believe the reason is that they may not have enough ads in each category to fill 100%, so they'll throw in some unrelated ads to fill the excess ad space. i'd rather have that than psa's any day. i think they are doing a good job. i'll stick with 'em. :)
