I used to host with them, but I didn't like it so I moved. I had bit of a problem with their refund policies and their process to cancel services... got billed a lot... oh well you live and learn. Overall their support is good. Upgrading takes long though, even with small things like ram... I had to wait 5 days to get 2 more gigs of ram :( Don't know if this if that is a normal wait period.. but yeah.

You can do better than them - I wouldn't go with them..

I used to host with them. Never had a single issue. Only problem was when I exceeded the bandwidth and recd extra b/w charges.

Ev1Servers and ThePlanet merged. I've been a customer for Ev1Servers for over 3 years and have had really good success with them. No hardware failures(knocks on wood) no downtime. I've been really happy with them. Now after the merger I haven't noticed any change but time will tell. Mergers to me usually don't always provide the best of services as before they merged.

I've hosted sites at Superb since 1996 and have had very few problems over the years.

Good to see we aren't the only ones who use FreeBSD :)

I had EV1 for 3years, after the merger to ThePlanet I'd have to say they're worse for it and not coordinated anymore.

Totally agree there merger with EV1 has lead to many unhappy customers.

Hosting with the planet was one of the best moves i've made yet. The support has always been fine and only a phone call away with little waiting time.

I recommend them!

I like Rob's idea to go with webhostingtalk and ask some experts there. I am currently on a ded. at Hostgator but I really want to switch to steadfast.

I just switched from Ev1/ThePlanet to Softlayer and they have been pretty good so far. I don't like mergers and usually the 2 companies together don't work as well.

Softlayer is excellent. I've extremely happy with them and don't plan on going anywhere as they offer everything I'd need in the future.

I have been in the hosting industry for nearly seven years and have used numerous dedicated providers. My company used The Planet for many years paying tens of thousands of dollars for servers there. This past fall we moved most of our servers out. The reasons were we found the hardware quality to be lacking, support going downhill, and pricing not competitive. We still have a couple of servers there but moved many over to Softlayer (www.softlayer.com). Softlayer's hardware quality is great as are their employees (many employees used to be a part of The Planet). While there have been a few network/power blips the network has been overall pretty good. We are pretty pleased and will continue to give them our business at this time.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions :)

well this has been very helpful. So far its been good for me. I was wondering about external server management, I had a few problems with it and I saw a couple of people who suggested external server management. What do u think about that?
