I'm wanting to build the ultimate profile editor.
What I have so far is modeled after the mygen creator with more features.
What else from a profile designers standpoint would you like to see from it?

Currently, the biggest "needed" feature to me and others I think is a live preview on the editor.
Its SO much better to see the changes as you go and make changes accordingly.
Just a heads up :)

I agree with the live preview being a very important feature.

Oh good God! How complicated does that page look?
If you can put all that together with drag and drop, point and press functionality, you will have yourself a winner.
When people see a page like that they just tend to say "wtf?" and close the browser.

I'm confused... what could be drag and drop?

Are you designing the "ultimate profile editor" for layout designers or MySpace users?
For a designer all the little extras are useful.
For a MySpace user, the "ultimate profile editor" is easy to use and simple. It may not have all the extras, but the average user doesn't understand most of the computer/graphic/lingo. They just want to make their own layout.

If you get around to this and you pay someone try to get them to sign the rights over to you because if it is 'ultimate' people here will pay you for it. Probably more than you'd earn having it on your site exclusive.

Unless you can do it yourself, it's pointless to hire someone to make something like what you're requesting. I say this for several reasons, but mainly;
1) The work you paid for is going to get released whether you want it to or not. Unfortunately it's how the industry and the developers in it work. You can count on it. Furthermore, it's javascript. Good luck protecting javascript. Even obfuscation isn't nearly as effective at protecting your code as you would hope.
2) If you didn't write it because you couldn't write it, you can't understand it and you can't support it.
3) Someone who has the ability to program this themselves will and will immediately do a better job than the guy who developed it for you simply because they can support it where you cannot.
Now if you're just making this for yourself it's an entirely different story :s

I have trustworthy programmers.
I could do it myself, except i type with one finger now (broke my neck) and it would take forever.
