Hello All,

I just logged into my 1and1 Hosting Control Panel and I just screamed. I noticed i went over my bandwidth limit, and i had to upgrade to the biggest plan which is only $20 a month, and i find their customer service, uptime, and speed extremely good.

Problem is, eventually i'm going to outgrow even the biggest plan they have.

What are the best hosting companies for UNMETERED BANDWIDTH for both SHARED and DEDICATED?

All advice/info is greatly appreciated!

Look into photobucket pro accounts. You can relieve some of the bandwidth by hosting images on other servers.

As chris said, photobucket pro accounts help. I started hosting most of my images on a couple of pro accounts and it's cut my bandwidth usage by more than half.

well all the images that i use for layouts and graphics codes are on photobucket.. i have a pro account.

however, the image previews and logo's and dividers/lines and some flash files i host on my shared provider. and i'm getting about 12K uniques per day, and everything ads up to 50-60GB bandwidth per day, which equals close to 2000GB a month.

Any ideas?

well, like everyone else has said... there is no such thing as unlimited. especially on shared hosting. best bet is to get a bunch of photobucket pro accounts and host your images there.. all the big sites do that, but they don't rely on just one they buy a lot... i have unmetered dedicated 10mbps... .but that's just a 3.5 tb limit a month. any good hosting company will tell you that there is no such thing as unmetered.

if you want to take a risk... you could try hosting images on myspace groups.. i know a couple of sites do that... just another option, even if it isn't a good one.

By the look of their site and their alexa I'd say no.

Just by what I said. Their site looks like crap, a simple template from anywhere for free and their alexa is extremely high for a hosting company. No other reasons but that. What are you looking for?

This is not a good solution for large sites. How am I supposed to change 15,000 graphics to photobucket?

FDCserver.net have quite affordable shared unmetered 100mbps. I read on their forum you can pull 18mbps average. Go read there for more info.

Okay guys, heres to clear up some things for you. UNMETERED BANDWIDTH IS A TRICK =p
That's right. A trick! They mean to trick you with unmetered and make you THINK unlimited. It's not actually unlimited

Anyway if you're not getting a TON of hits I recommend yeah, midphase or dreamhost, but lunarpages is #1 in the best server hosting right now

if you pay less then $100 a month for a shared you get a problem if you website eats 2TB traffic or more (not only because of the bandwidth)

i agree that "unmetered shared hosting" is just a marketing ploy. imho, anyone exceeding 2tb/mo shared will get their account throttled so as not to overwhelm their network. result: a very sluggish site and/or frequent timeout errors.

what's the best shared host that will give you more than 2TB/mo of honest transfer without throttling?

imo, for really heavy users a dedicated fs with the unmetered option is the way to go. costly, yes, but worth it.

not sure if they throttle or not but I have used hostdepartment.com's hosting for up to 6 msrs sites per month. I have the developer unlimited which says its unlimited bandwidth and I have never had any problems with slow sites or timeouts. With my most popular sites I was using 4.5GB a day of bandwidth with no problems not a huge amount compared to larger sites but works well with small/medium sized sites

Also they will be offering dedicated servers with unlimited bandwidth starting in 2008 sometime for $129 on up

I did 50,000 so you can do 15,000 alot easier. I wish I only had 15K

Midphase and DreamHost will shut you down once your site starts to use alot of resources.

When I fist started out I had DreamHost and it wasnt for MySpace sites either. As time went on I bought my first MySpace site and started building it. DreamHost shut me down cause the site was using to much of the servers resources so I moved to MidPhase and within a week of getting my site up they too shut me down.

I that point I decided shared hosting was done for me and got my 1st dedicated.

Hi, I checked this, you get some GB and unlimited bandwidth, but how do you used that URL's in your site do you have an example (URL)

yeah it's a big step but for sure not a wrong one. I think its nothing ok to use a dedicated server if you need that amount of resources because you earn enough money to pay this more expensive hosting. (if not you're doing the wrong business)

I check WHT frequently for good deals in their hosting advertising section.

Even a Photobucket Pro account will get closed if you use to much bandwidth as it also uses up excessive CPU cycles

How much bandwidth transfer do you realistically need? If you really do need a lot, it may be worth considering a dedicated server with an unlimited bandwidth port from a reputable company such as Softlayer.com

unmetered if you see it is simply to get signups, noone really actually legitimately offers it

minnseoelite
March 30th, 2007, 10:24 PM
most of them offer unmetered bandwidth assuming that most sites out there will never come close to causing any real problems they probably figure that most sites (not msrs or video sites) will never use over 2TB a month anyways

mincioni

shared hosts are offering unmetered bw just to suck in more users. same as an all you can eat restaurant does. they figure, how much can one person eat anyway? a few really hungry people might eat a lot, but on average most eat only 1-2 plates of food. for those eating too much they'll simply throttle those accounts so they can't eat as fast.

imho, a dfs is the right way to go if one has a successful ms site that chews thru a lot of data transfer.

As everyone said, unmetered is just a myth.

CarpathiaHost / 4PH depending on weather you want dedicated or VPS plus Photobucket Pro is the way to go in my opinion.

I should mention both of those (same parent company) aren't the cheapest by any means, but you get what you pay for.

Live tech support at 4AM Christmas morning? Yeah, they got that.
