I'm an ex web/graphic designer and I really wanna get back into it. Back in the day, before myspace, it was easy. You made your layout in photoshop and cut it up into tables using HTML. Now there's CSS, XHTML, and all this other stuff and I feel like I'm starting all over again. Anyway I wanna make a really eye catching custom myspace layout, and I'm not sure where to start. I can change my background and play around with the code a little, but I wanna really understand what I'm doing, not just guess. I know it's mostly CSS right? Can someone help me out here? I need like, myspace layouts for dummies or something... :?
Peace,
droopy

Droopy,
I think the quickest and easiest way is to visit a site like MySpaceStop.com and just copy the code from a layout and look at it in NotePad or Dreamweaver. Just to get an understanding for CSS and the myspace template. It's pretty easy to understand (Note I'm not a designer/developer) but my undergrad degree must be kicking it. It's pretty straight forward.
Also, to reverse engineer the code I'd recommend w3schools.com. Hope this helps.

hey Droopy, i'm in the same boat your in. I was distracted for a few years but I'm back and i've discovered how to intigrate css into my table graphic layouts. I agree back in the day it was way esier to get a website off the ground, now it's hard and you gotta have $$$ to start. do you design graphics? ill bet you could learn some basic css in a matter of days even hours. you should checkout pageresource.com - thats where i learned from.

Get this two books, read them and you are pretty much done on understanding web standards/ web design as a whole
(1) Bulletproof web design
(2) CSS Mastery by Andy
Read bulletproof web design first (easy read) then polish yourself with CSS Mastery.
After this two books, you are pretty set on the basic which will give you a solid fundamentals.
Easy on they eyes web design/ stardard will be easier to master. but nothing will replace CREATIVITY though. so if you are like us that are die hard MAC students then it helps :>)
get photoshop to play with. (if you have a student friend) you can get a discount price thru them. since adobe can be pricey.
hopefully this helps.
