I've been searching everywhere for ages until I finally found it!!!
To open animated gifs in Photoshop CS3:
1. Click "File" then "Import" >> "Video frames to layers".
2. Type " *.* " (asterisk, period, asterisk) on the File name and click "Load".
3. It'll not open any file but it'll show all files such as animated gifs. Click on your animated image and click again "Load".
4. After clicking "Load", a dialog box will popup regarding the imports...just click "ok".
5. Layers of that animated gif will show up. Click "Windows" then "Animation". It'll show the animation frames.
Voila! You can now open animated gifs!!!

This was an awesome tut - I had been wondering how to do this. I just ran into a small problem though:
This method, as written, worked perfectly until I reloaded my computer and re-installed cs3. Now when I try to import a transparent gif file, it shows up with a white background. I've looked in the Edit/Preferences section, I can't find an option to set transparent as the default. Does anyone know how to change this setting?
Thank youuu!

Bump for my question. :) I've looked into all the user options and preferences, but can't get rid of the white background on transparent gifs. It worked fine on my earlier install. :_(
P.S., I know this whole Video Frames to Layers option won't work at all without quicktime installed, but could this weirdness have to do with my quicktime version? I think I have the latest one, b/c I just re-installed itunes.

I'm pretty sure CS2 comes with Imageready.

I don't know how to do it either. I was thinking of opening it on Animation Shop and save every frame as a single image and open them each in Photoshop :turned:
And thanks, glad it helped everyone! :)
