I have reeeeeally low ctr an average of 1.43%. I looked up articles on increasing ctr through adsense, but I havent found anything that has done anything to increase it. Any ideas?

You should make a new channel for each ad so you know which ones are doing well and which ones aren't.
Change the 468x60 ad's border to the background color and maybe change the other ad's text color.

Hm, ok thanks for the suggestion I'll try that out.

First thought is to add more text to your pages so you can get some better targeted ads.

lol, gotta love all those typical "suggestions"... change the colors... blend them... unblend them... put a border... bla bla bla...
Waste of time. When you have a site with a low CTR I don't see how changing a color can help. instead of wasting your time trying to squeeze an extra cents in clicks just work on building more traffic. I wouldn't care to have a 1% ctr if my site got 100,000 visitors a day.

More traffic is aways good :) I would still put all the ads in their own channels though. You may find that your skyscraper and link unit adds are worthless. I'd bet that your top ad is getting a good CTR its the others bringing it down.

In my experience (and I'm sure others will agree) I would remove the Google link unit ads.I haven't made a cent on any site using them.

I think I must be doing something wrong for my own site. Whenever I see surges in traffic - it never translates to clicks through in Google and I am lucky if I scrape $1 a day! :(

It's really funny how different things work on different sites, I have given up trying to figure out why.
Two of my MSRS sites are still as they came, no work has been done to them so they are pretty much identical yet one has a much larger CTR than the other. It's always been that way and there is just no reason for it.
I have other sites where I have used the link ads exactly as shimmeringgraphix.com is using them. Heres one as an example slimming-world-guide.co.uk/ (http://slimming-world-guide.co.uk/)
The only diference is that I use red which makes them stand out and they look like a menu. I have placed them in their own channels just to follow their progress and achieved good results from them. I just took a look at the monthly stats for a couple of my sites and find approx 1/3 of the clicks and the revenue come from the link ads.
What I did notice shimmeringgraphix is that the ads are not really relevant to the site which I believe is the main problem.
What I am seeing is "Become an expert investor" "Text to screen solutions" "NI RF Signal generators" "Text to screen solutions" etc. Nothing that would interest anyone looking for Graphics or MySpace related stuff.
The Link ads on the other hand say "

So with those you are on the right track. I would make those ones Red and place them in a channel asap.

I agree with the Text Link Unit Ads they are totally worthless. Tracking the ads with channels is essential to changing up poor performing ads. Some ad formats work better for me but may not work better for you. The ads I have that get the most clicks are the ones that stick out the most with less blending of the site. Surprisingly the ones that do worse are the ones blended in more with the site color scheme.

Have a look at this thread Maz, shows the difference in the CTR between two types of Myspace scripts.
