OMG! EEWWWW!

I read about this on Digg and even Wiki'd Goatse'd (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goatse.cx) to find out what that meant but didn't bother checking out the images.

To be honest, I figured it was a figurative type of goatse and not the actual image described on Wiki.

Eeeeeewww! If you click on one of those image links, it really is exactly as described. Barf*

lmao...how could anyone spend any real amount of time online and never been to goatse? I actually make sure to send any of my friends there whenever they make the jump online just to get it over with early for them. Then I slip in the others to test their skills heheh.

Wasn't hotfreelayouts one that was giving someone here crap for using layouts they had?

Exact same thing happened to me, mcfox. I had absolutely no idea what goatse
meant.

I guess should've read the article more closely - it does warn you but I have this thing about white text on black background ...

Some person claiming to be a designer for hotfreelayouts asked me to remove their layout from my user-submitted section. I removed it, then browsed hotfreelayouts to see a few of my layouts and images. After tons of emails they have still never removed it.

Also MyspaceSupport dot Com seems to have a few of my layouts on their.

How does one go about editting their .htaccess so that all calls for images in a certain directory + subdirectory from a specific site (hotfree, myspacesupport) could show a specific image? I wouldnt go to the extreme but Id like to have it just have an image saying come visit my site.

umm just change the image on your ftp with a big *** VISIT www.mysite.com banner

But then everyone using my layout/image would get it, not just the hits/views from xxxxx.com calling my images.

Might not be possible to do, thought it might have something to do with the .htaccess. Oh well.

or you can change it to a banner that says VISIT MY SITE AND GET OFF THIS DUMBASS'S STEALING SITE.

yep should do the trick.

You can just block certain sites from direct linking your images. :]

"Luckily" they direct linked the images so he could change them.
Generally speaking stealers have them uploaded elsewhere so nothing can be done. :/

I was under the impression hotfreelayouts is the users submitted profile layout. So someone would have submitted thier profile layout that looked real good, then the code is offered to other people. Im sure thats how it works over there?

I found an article about selective hotlinking prevention through .htaccess. (http://underscorebleach.net/jotsheet/2004/06/htaccess-prevent-hotlinking)

hotfreelayouts is notorious for that. if you look at their site many of their layouts are from other sites.

Just copy/paste the code in your .htaccess and you wont have to worry about people stealing your bandwidth.

RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://mydomain.com/.*$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://mydomain.com$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://www.mydomain.com/.*$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://www.mydomain.com$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://www.mydomain.com$ [NC]

RewriteRule .*\.(swf)$ http://www.mydomain.com/bad.jpg [R,NC]

if you steal other people's layouts, you should have the decency to host it on your own server.. some people... they have really horrible layouts but they get massive traffic :/ that's unfair.

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} (hotlinkingsite1|hotlinkingsite2)
RewriteRule .* - [F]

Better version:

.htaccess
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(.+\.)?hotlinkingdomain1\.com/ [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(.+\.)?hotlinkingdomain2\.com/ [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^http://(.+\.)?hotlinkingdomain3\.com/ [NC]
RewriteRule .*\.(jpe?g|gif|bmp|png|swf|wmv)$ - [F]
