I have decided we will have a fire sale this July, starting on July 5th and lasting for one week. So start preparing for it now and I will release more information soon.

Anyone who was here last year will know how huge this is, so feel free to let the newer members in on how it was.

This is some of the information from This thread. (http://www.myspacepros.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7866)

The normal $5 charge will be waived for this thread but you must offer a 50% discount to your regular price in order to be elegible.
Think about it, the bigger the discount the more sales you will make.

To assist this and to bring more buyers to the forum we will be doing a mailout to all members advising them of this sale.
We will also be posting on other Forums about this sale.
A sale like this will bring back a lot of old and new buyers to the Forum.
As the week progresses I expect a flurry of buyers on the last day or two who won't want to miss out on the bargains on offer.

Please make sure that any content you sell is already completed, we don't want any hassles, anyone who disregards this will have there sales thread removed.

So get to it you Designers, bring out all you have, old and new, some large packs would be excellent, and make enough money to spend the summer on the beach .

The ones who put their products up first will receive the Lions share of the business so act fast, don't let someone else steal your customers.

Does it have to be 50% exactly? I think I can do this but at 50% off original listed prices since I basically already lower the costs over time so.. Yeah.

I don't think it's BS. I kind of want to sell some stuff I already put up but it's only going to be things that only about 3 people have purchased. The way I see it is like this- say you purchase something from Bath & Body Works full price. Then their semi-annual sale comes along and people save big. It's not BS because you bought it before the sale came along, it's just how the world works =/. LOL, I think my comparison sucked.

And I do hope the quality will be just as good as normal price!

I don't think it's bull either. It's just like buying something at the store when it first comes out, then a month or so later the price drops by half the price or more. It's just business...

I plan on selling new stuff just because i haven't sold anything new in a while but it's not a big deal to me if i pay $50 for something and then it gets cut down to half the price or more. No one forced me into buying it for 50 bucks.

I dunno man..... I think it should be kinda an every man for hiumself decision.

in one view: the people who bought them for FULL price got them when they were HOT, and already probably got there monies worth out of them. So, second hand buyers, will probably get what they pay for too since theyve already been offered.

in another view: I see where that may bring concern thinking its not fair to the people who paid full price.

I think it should be left up to the designer/seller and let the buyers make the descision if they wanna buy it and battle it out at the time with that seller. Every designer for himself lol :smartass:

[deep voice] life's not fair. [/deep voice] LOL just kidding. But I see and understand what you're saying.

I understand what you're saying but those 3 people who paid full price won't be too happy with you... :punchout:

I could always give them half of their money back if a profit was made :). I'm sure some people would be understanding though. It's not a huge deal. It's not like I charged a large amount of money lol.

Yeah, that's how I see it. It's how business is conducted elsewhere, shouldn't the same rules apply? But yes, I'm working on new stuff right now but I did want to offer a couple of things that barely sold (if it's not against the rules).

Melissa
June 26th, 2008, 02:58 PM

I thought it was only new, I stand corrected...went back and looked...It was old and new.....

BUT it had to be 50% off.

If you normally sold 20 glitters for $5, then you would sell 20 glitters for $2.50

OMGOSH! This is so exciting! I've been in the old "Fire Sale" Thread snooping around, kinda wondering what it was all about!
Can you be a "Noob" Seller? I'm sorry if this is answered somewhere, half asleep.
Is it OK if I put a link to MSPros on my Myspace Layout Site? I'm just starting off with my new Site, but I have some Friends that are senior Sites who have tons and tons of Friends, what a good way to get the word out for some potential new buyers.
I love MSPros and everyone here, so I'd have no problem stalking, ooops, I didn't say stalking....lol.....I'd have no problem sending massive amounts of Bulletins, Messages, Etc.

Good Luck to all the Sellers! May your sales sky rocket, and as Greg said, "Make lots of money to spend your summer on the beach!"

Don't forget to send us Post Cards, though!

I wasn't a big fan of this last year as a seller because of the fact people paid full price for the same packs going on sell. I did participate for a couple of reasons only. But at the same time I offered my previous buyers something in return to make up for it. That's just me.

I do think it is a "participate at your own risk" thing. It's there for you if you want, but nothing says you HAVE to do it.

I am thrilled for buyers. Now things that were once a dollar for a thousand graphics will now be fifty cents, I might end up going broke! ;)

Just remember that pm'ing people your sales thread is spam. And buyers beware, we had a bunch of pure JUNK in our packs. It's a total flea market of the marketplace. Things can get crazy so deal wisely, stay on top of things...happy buying. (and selling)

This is how business is conducted. When things are initially new, they're sold at a given price but eventually, there may be a sale and you'll get a discount. I can understand if I charged someone $50 for something and now it's $25 but I am pretty sure people won't get their panties in a bunch over a couple of dollars =/.

Melissa
June 26th, 2008, 03:42 PM
Actually in the past there has been people selling something for more than $50 cutting it in half to where it's almost nothing

Sure it's business but when you compare this to actual store company, you technically can't

They get their money back out of you as the customer

Like the Bath & Body Works example... I should use JcPenny's marketing ideas... boy are those a total rip

I can see disadvantages in selling old packs really cheap.
If you lower the price for every pack by a lot it would annoy the people who bought them when they first came out. It's also an issue of buyer-loyalty, if they know you'll just cut the price after awhile they might not buy your new packs and just wait til you reduce the price which will ultimately result in the seller losing money anyway.

Good point I was going to post this earlier, but I figured why not just let them learn for themselves (this goes to some new sellers, I see them doing this... not even giving the sale a chance after a couple hours they cut the price right away... and again... and again... and again)

Well that's a different situation from me, I haven't sold anything for that much lol. I still think it's a comparable situation though.

I see what you're saying though 'cause earlier you mentioned people selling stuff that originally supposed to be for 10-15 people and then selling to more. Now that's wrong because when you initially sold it, you offered exclusivity and shouldn't take that away. I just don't see it being a huge problem for people who created a thread and made little to no profit.

With my situation, it wouldn't be for every pack. It would just be for one or two that hardly sold. I don't have a problem with giving people 50% of their money back seeing as though I don't charge much.

well from the sellers that were here last year, at least from me, i didnt lose any customers. and if i did, it was probably for other reasons than the fire sale. other's lost customers for the lack of professionalism and horrible attitudes. we got a few new members that came on just to scam.

dont scam
be professional
correct errors
dont spam
be on top of your sales

and you shouldn't lose any business for participating. and as i recall, some people who said they wouldn't buy from others because they participated, ended up not only buying but continued to buy from those same buyers. people will express their strong opinions on here. but sometimes when the sale is going on, the story changes ;) you'll notice that lots of the buyers that you dont see too often posting in threads, are here for business and understand the workings of it. leaving personal opinions at the door....AND learning from last year to save up for this year LOL which means they haven't been buying lately so they can unload with the fire sale!

i still have my own opinion of it. im not selling anything this year, im just giving a few tips for those who will be participating.

Well actually this applies to the current topic

Let's say someone sold like 30 layouts and only said they were selling to 10 people

But when the fire sale comes around their going to sell it half price to another 10 people

That would piss me off not only because they sold it half off but because their selling it too mooooooooooooore people

Anyway that's not your point you're making. If the first time you sold it, didn't go so well, like a couple buyers, then selling it half isn't bad

But when you sold it 30 times already and then come back and do it again, it's very annoying

Some people here sold graphics to atleast 100 different people 100 different times, it's very disturbing...

I would suggest some Firesale etiquette :)

1. If you said you were only selling a pack X number of times, don't put it in the firesale. That does in fact piss people off that bought it for full price.

2. Don't be tempted to sell untagged packs. You will probably get a lot of sales from people with multiple sites. That will require a lot of tagging. Be prepared.

3. Show several or all samples of what comes in the pack and what your tags look like.

Nicely said. Anyway as a buyer I want to see:
New stuff -preferably something other than whats in the marketplace now, its just plain boring ppl.
Old stuff - so I can buy packs that I wanted to get, but didn't have the funds or it was to expensive.
And most of all BRING ON THE BARGAINS PPL-----you know we women(and some men of course) LOVE to shop, especially when there are sweet bargains to be had, so bring it on.;)

This has been a long time issue here, this is because buyers have actually complained about this, many times, so of course we have to consider that.

This is just a good way to lose customers... it has happened in the past, and the marketplace is definitely no as active as it was last year, so it makes things worst for both, sellers and customers.

I'm just letting you know because you haven't been here that long and maybe you didn't know, but this has been an issue brought up by customers in the past.

Greg will have the last word... I know it'll be great and a good boost for the marketplace.

If someone were to sell nothing but new packs, you're not selling them at 50% off. You're selling them for full price but saying you might charge double that if this was a normal sale.

Things go on sale no matter what you buy (except for Gas) and noone says "I'm not shopping at that market because I bought cheese for $4.99 lb 2 weeks ago and now its $2.49 lb for a week".

Last years fire sale was amazing, and everyones old packs sold like crazy and yes people listed new packs as well and those sold too.

But I highly doubt there is any sort of argument saying I bought BRAND NEW graphics at full price and now you're selling these graphics which are now 6 months old for half price so now I'm pissed and not buying from you.

I think thats more than a little ridiculous.

:surrender: :surrender: :surrender:

But I love all you guys and respect the final decision made whether it be made by Greg or the community as a whole and I certainly don't mean to step on anyones toes when it comes to this. Just stating an opinion. :)

this is actually genius. if you offer new packs, sell them at a reasonable price so that later you can put them in the marketplace for double. if you price it correctly, it will be a money maker in both places.

WarBud

I'm ready and waiting for the sale.

As for the issue with selling older packs for a discount. Do it as long as it's not limited ( i.e. only X packs to be sold). You can't go to a single store where some product isn't discounted. If you have ever been shopping, you have purchased something that has sold for less at a later date. That's business. If previous buyers don't understand, too bad. They obviously don't live in the real world.

bronzy
June 27th, 2008, 10:19 AM
I don't know why its such a big deal, they do it all the time in the marketplace, where a pk of graphics or layouts are advertised at one price and may get a couple of sales and then its discounted so that they can get rid of all the packs.

I dont know if anyone's complained, but this is what happens online and in the real world, you buy something when it first comes out, only to find it discounted like a few days or wks later, get over it already geez:rolleyes:.

Unless of course if it's limited packs where you advertised that you will only be selling to # of ppl and you've already sold that amount, then yes I would have a problem with that.:whistling:

A BUYERS WISH LIST:

After my experience last year, here is somethings I'd love to see...

(1) short but descriptive subject line: (example)
10 rock n roll layouts $7
15 summer glitters $5
20 album covers $2

(2) [TO GREG-J] either have each seller have their own 'storefront', so they can have a thread for each sale item. Keeps it organized about who's selling what.

If no 'storefront' then, each sales thread should be individually setup by category so it's easier to skim the subject line for a particular item. (example):
[GRAPHICS] 15 summer glitters $5
[LAYOUTS] 10 rock n roll layouts $7
[GRAPHICS] 20 album covers $2
[GENERATORS]
[LINKS]
[ETC ETC ETC]

Also, preferrably one thread per category/sales item. I ended up printing out each thread that I was interested in and put them in an priority pile
(HAVE TO BUY) - (MAYBE/UNDECIDED) - (IF $ LEFT)

(3) Live Samples
examples within the sales thread, helps when I print them out to joggle my memory...and links to LIVE SAMPLES

(4) Be proactive in post sales
I had tons of corrupt zip files that needed to be resent. Since most sellers send via sendspace. I suggest you using your sites for sales downloads or emailing the files to the persons email... eliminates the auto delete used at sendspace.
I bought tons of content and a few sendspace links expired before I had time to download. Granted that is my responsiblity to get them, but being that I bought almost a thousand dollars or more worth of content. It took me a while to check off each purchase and go thru verifying blah blah blah...

(5) Layouts requirements:
if you say its MSRS ready, PLEASE make sure they are! I got tons of css codes that have css.php and css.txt with the same code inside
Remove your linkbacks in the code too!

(6) Tagging:
If you require that all your graphics will not be sold untagged, please be realistic with your turn around time and also, DON'Tforgo the quality of the tag and placement. It irks me to see to see the graphics tagged so hap-hazardly which just ruins the graphic.

(7) Be Professional
This is a hobby for some and a business for others. In any case, please act professional. When I spend hard earned money, I think it's only fair that both parties act professional. Be open to communication. It'll only help in future sales!

Keep in mind these are just suggestions from a buyer. I think being a little organized with help us all. I look forward to doing business with many of you!

Well i've been making some things lately that i was just going to sell in the marketplace, but i'll wait for the fire sale. Also is there like a max price for something? Because i'm not very good with pricing as i live in the uk so pricing in dollars beomes difficult.

I really hope people don't start selling older packs at 50% off. I already get annoyed when prices drop after purchasing something so I know others will too. It will lose you customers. :/

I'll probably just be buying.. with all the low prices, having to discount them even more leaves little room for quality.

Matt
June 29th, 2008, 02:11 AM
I don't know why its such a big deal

1) It gives people with not much money a chance to buy, if they normally don't.
2) Gives people who don't have the $5 in paypal, a chance to sell and make money without losing any.

Yes, I agree

I also don't like the fact that people compare buying these graphics online to buying actual products at a store

To me it's no where near the same thing...

I didn't read all 80+ posts but as a random thought I don't think this years firesale should be promoted like it was last year. I think it would benefit the sellers and buyers more if it was more of an MSP thing. Last year it was promoted all over and sure it brought in a few extra buyers but brought in a flood of designers which added competition to our members here and lowered their potential sales with buyers spending money on packs from people that just joined that day and having to pass up packs from actual members.

This hurt buyers as well with alot of those newbie sellers flooding in an offering packs that were pure crap and not like what they posted in their thread. So buyers ended up kicking themself for buying junk and getting screwed.

Edit: I also think that given the new 15 post count for the marketplace all of the mods should be on their toes during the sale and really watch out for newbies coming in and spamming their post count just to post their sales thread and leave once the firesale is done. I have nothing against new members but I think the existing members need to be better looked after this year so they can get the most out of this years sale :)

buy buy buy lol. you don't need 15 posts to buy in the marketplace, and you can usually tell who is a designer and who is a buyer ;)

I'm not saying to exclude them cause some may be both a buyer and seller or might be a quality seller that becomes a valuable member, just that there are things we can do to better look after our existing members this year :)

I'm sure there won't be a lot of new designers that are going to jump in the sale because it's so hard to get in MSP. I've been trying to get activated for a couple of months now. Yay me for not giving up. This forum is so addicting. (:

- do we have to make our own stuff, or we can sell graphics made by other ppl ( if we have resell right )

- can we sell old packs

- etc etc etc

I created 20 black & white quotes 'cause I checked out a lot of my friends myspace profiles and those are quite popular.
I made 8 layouts (took foreverrrrrr to get them working exactly how I wanted to w/ the new navbar and keeping the friends space from stretching lol).
I also made 6 album cover sets.

Neelam and other interested designers:
If you can make quotes that are not redundant, for example scrap the quotes that are in the designers corners http://myspacepros.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4156 , sick of seeing those, there are tons of quote sites that u can find inspiration from.

It would be nice to see some more spanish quotes, with actually meaning not just meaningless sayings,
some flash quotes,
some pic captions without the silly same "whatever, bff, haters, jealousy" etc etc,
blended layouts,
some UNIQUE music skins
black + white quotes (as described above)
NO PNG BG/thumbs for layouts

Other than that just be original

neelam007

What's the deal? When is this supposed to start? I mean, we have known about this for 9 days now and the thread isn't up yet?
Also, I am a little bummed that the original idea of sending e-mails to all the members is not going to happen. I mean, that was what I was most excited about...having absent members coming back to buy. Shoot, if they don't come than we will only have the usual members buying (which I'm not complaining about at all) and it would be nice to have some "fresh" buyers.
Oh Well!

Yeh, but at least we know all the people who we will be buying/selling from.

It's 1:41, so I'd say that's about afternoon enough. I'm creating the section and will be posting the rules over the next hour. We'll be looking at about a 3pm PST start time.
