I think it has a bit more to do with the turnkey sites. With everyone starting from the same script and doing most of the same mods.. if you put time into your site customizing it and writing things to differentiate it from stock (new layout, features, gens, content) or you have some killer idea you dont want others to see.. what incentive is there to draw attention to it?

i've had it on some sites in the past and seen good results but I figured there was really only 1 way to use it.. just putting up the 4 links from the php include or whatever.. been a year or two since i've messed with it..
