Once a month or so I'll get a request to change someones username. My response is always "no", and here's why:

This server has a lot of other sites on it and some of those sites run crons several times an hour. The Sitesixteen marketplace runs every 120 seconds and an internal craigslist cron runs every 5 minutes - and lasts for 7 minutes (do the math) - so the added strain of rebuilding the information that needs to be rebuilt when you do a username change needs to be done when the server isn't getting a bunch of traffic. That time is about 3am to 5am my time, when I sleep. If I am awake at that time I'm working and I don't want to change a username and run maintenance.

So here's what I'll do. I'll stay up one night this week and change everyone who wants to change their username and are willing to pay for it. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to lose sleep to change a username someone simply wishes were changed ;)

If you have 500 posts or less and want your username changed, it's $10. If you want it changed and you have over 500 posts, it'll be $15. I'll do it as long as 5 or more people want it done. If at least 5 people don't want it done it's a no go.

If you want it done, PM me. I'll change them come Monday/Tuesday.

I just got this message about changing your username:

im interested in changing my username, just one question, how come the people with more posts have to pay more than the people with less posts?

More posts = more processing power rebuilding posts = more likely to cost me more time in manually restarting the service or even the server. Take into consideration that Shawn had to stop allowing username changes a while back because even with only a few million posts the name change process would take his $100,000 server 5 minutes and freeze most the time.

Name changes no longer offered. I was waiting until a certain number of people signed up for it, but not enough did to make it worth the hassle.

Anyone who paid the $15 for their name change has been sent $45 via PayPal for the delay along with my apology.

I may make this available again in the future some time.
