Trying to decide which language I want to write my new site in (Rails or PHP) and am trying to do a little research and see how many hits/requests per second some of the sites getting 20,000+ unique visitors/day are doing.

Anyone own a high traffic site and can provide some details for me? Doesn't even need to be specific; it can be like "mid XX,XXX hits" or "high XXX,XXX hits with mid XX,XXX uniques/day".

Thanks.

You will have to see whether the website is image intensive or not..

Well those will be served from a static server, I'm talking about actual hits to the website - ie viewing layouts and pages that require calls to the database etc.
