I have been really busy lately and havent been posting much at all. But I know everyone here is really helpful! So anyway, I want to purchase a domain name through namecheap, if I do that how do I add that domain name to hosting on godaddy or something? Do they give you a certain code of some sort? Also, what hosting would you recommend? I have used startlogic for a year and I had some problems with them.

If you purchase a domain on namecheap, you can host the domain anywhere, provided you enter the nameserver information correctly at namecheap. Your host should be able to tell you what the nameserver information should be.

As far as recommending a host, see some of the threads in this subforum.

It's best to have your hosting and domain management through the same company. But you can have a domain at namecheap and point the domain to your godaddy ip address. Its not that complicated but like I said before, its best to have the domain and host through the same company. Check out http://www.forealhosting.com

Why do you say that? I thought the opposite was true. Who your domain registrar is matters. You don't want it registered with a crappy registrar. Some hosting companies can make your life a living hell if you want to leave and they have the domain.

i oppose that too .. i would never put my domain and hosting in the same company... in case of dispute ... you won't lose both.

you have to get the authorization code first from your older ragistrar before transfering

I guess OP is asking about to set name server or some kinda like that.

see after you purchase domain and hosting, you will be given name servers by hosting company. Set that name servers in your domain from domain control panel (If you want to know to know then read that domain registars faq). Once you setup name servers your site will be started working.

If you want to transfer domain at another registar then get auth code of domain and use it while doing process (You will again find exact method from registars faq)
