Hi everyone,
I recently launched ShoutPix (http://shoutpix.com). I'm interested in learning the best way to build sustainable traffic to a site, starting from zero. Obviously the big guys aren't going to link-exchange with me, so what are the strategies for getting a decent amount of traffic started? Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

i just started a website too, and basicly i have learned that its impossable these days. unique content geared towords certain fans is the only way to maybe get a sniff of traffic.

Link exchanges with other myspace sites. Paid links on higher traffic myspace sites. PPC advertising (expensive)

I dont agree one bit, its not easy but its definately possible.
For example I have had my website a little over a month and with a little money and a lot of work am getting between 2000 - 3000 uniques a day. I realise this is nothing compared to some sites but after a month I consider it good and definately a sniff of traffic.
I have found link exchanges, good content, some paid advertisements and SEO work to be whats helped me.

You don't necessarily need unique content to keep people coming back. You just need to find a way to make what content you have easier to get to.

Any time I have used graphics like those, I've found them through Google. Then again, I'm not really doing it as a typical "Myspace User", but any SEO you can do of course is a good bet.(maybe try for some less competitive search terms that relate to some of your graphics..)
Otherwise, seems like the best way to promote it would be finding ways to get a ton of your graphics out there in people comments, maybe recruit some friends to post some of your graphics in their myspace friends comments(you've got some funny things there on the front page, so it shouldn't be "taxing" for them to do that..)
Other ideas might be:
-post/comment exchanges with other myspace users
-"friending" some of the higher traffic myspace users(Dane Cook, Kevin Smith, Tia Tequilla, those sorts) and commenting on their pages. (probably a bit overdone to be honest, but I'm sure it generates some traffic, especially if you can stay relevant and not appear spammy.. I.E. Merry Christmas graphics this time of year, that sort of crap..)
-I saw a really cool graphic that had a flashing dot and arrow saying "I live here", have no idea how that worked, but I could see a lot of people using "stealing" something like that from their friends..
Good luck with the site.
