What are you running on the server and whats your budget ? The more you spend the better you will get for your money. Managed or unmanaged ?

i hate to be so repetitive... but you just cant go wrong with www.layeredtech.com

you can pay montly, they servers are great and you can get them as low as $60/month which still work great.

when you have a problem with your server's OS, then you would have to fix the problem yourself on an unmanaged server...likewise if you wanted software then you would have to install it yourself. with hardware or other technical problems, they will still take care of it since its impossible for you to do it over the internet.

a managed server is the opposite.

my 2 cents I think reliability and uptime are the most important. Then bw then ram and then processor speed in that order is what is most important to me. The more the better. If you have not had a dedicated server yet I think it best to get a vps first and learn some server management because not matter how good the host companies technical support is there is still alot things you need to know on a dedicated box.

well im getting two dedicated servers which will be connected to each via cables, one will be for mysql only and the other for graphics and etc.
its gona cost me around $150-$200 per month

one is a dual xeon dual processor, and the other one have threading technology to enable it to take high requests of queries and manage everything well.

this might sound lot for my website since i barely get 2k uniques per day but i been holding off on the big things b/c i knew my share server wouldnt handle it.

with the two dedicated servers i can have lot of different gens like profile counter, maps, etc which work with databases and need fast and high performance servers.

so there it is, hope im not doing too much and spending too much money. :)

I'd like to know where you are getting a duel xeon and another server for 150-200 a month plus your going to connect them so they share BW ect.

My duel xeon cost me over $270 a month alone and Im a reseller. It is packed with RAM/BW/ and all the bells and stuff but even a basic model will cost you about $200 a month to start unless it has almost nothing with it.

Once your site gets big and the calls to the http grow to a unreal rate you either have to balance the load between 2 servers or more or put it on a grid system.

The grid is my next move if I continue to grow. Traffic has been down for my main site since Thanksgiving. One of my new sites just under a month old Crashed one of my duel Xeons for 2 nights straight till I had 2048 more Ram added but though it didnt crash after that it still was running slow.

Within the next couple of months I will be having some tough decisions to make and Im not sure which way to go on things but will learn when the time comes.

So you may wanna check your prices again and look at the specs you are getting for that price you mentioned above.

heres wut im offered:

Dual Xeon 2.4 and a P4 2.8Ghz HT for $150/month for the first 3 months and then $200 thereafter.

Dual Xeon 2.4Ghz, the cost would be $99/month for the first 3 months and then $150 thereafter.

Dual Xeon contains 1GB RAM, 1500GB bandwidth, 80GB disk space.

The Dual Xeon includes the cost of the linux OS and bandwidth. Any control panel will work fine. So you can choose the Webmin (www.webmin.com) which is free, Directadmin (www.directadmin.com) which is an additional $15/month, or cPanel/WHM (www.cpanel.net) for an additional $35/month.

I can upgrade to 2GB for one time fee of $100 or extra $20 per month.

The servers are unmanaged but would cost extra $100 per month for managed.

So is this still cheap?

I guess its good to start out with but your site will eat that RAM and BW up really quick if you grow at all. You see one of mine has 4 GB of RAM/320 GB Diskspace/3300 GB of transfer/Cpanel w/Fantastico.

So once you add up all you will need with just the Xeon it will be FAR more then 150-200 a month.

I understand all that but for now I dont need that much. I talked with the person who I will be buying the dual xeon soon and he said he can upgrade it with RAM and disk space if i needed.
I can get extra 1GB ram for one time fee of $100!

for now I dont need that much but as soons as i keep growing and my revenue grows, I will upgrade as my traffic goes up.

Theres no need for me to get what you have when i dont need it yet. just tryin to save some money instead of buying what you have and not use all of its resources. :)
