View Full Version : Get them hooked

There are several threads here that tell you to focus on your content. Many people are just uploading their site, changing the logo and some colors, and hoping that with some crappy bulletins they will get rich. Well, its time to say once again that you need to focus on your content.

I have been checking my stats for quite some time. whenever I gert a hit from a comment section on a profile I visit it to see the kind of images my visitors are using. One thing I noticed is that they seem to get hooked on the site, I can see the same user posting several different images throughout the days, and that sure feels nice. Building a loyalty is what you need to succeed. No use on sending a bulletin, getting a few visitors and never seeing them again.

I spend a couple of hours every day editing images, resizing, watermarking and uploading. It is quite a task, but it is worth it.

Excellent observation. Pretty much the same principal with any business. Provide a service that your customers want and they will keep coming back....Provide crappy service or content and you see them once and never again. This is just like any other business, you have got to love it as it takes a lot of work. At least that's what I am reading into a lot of post here from those that have been at it a while. Thanks fryman for sharing all your wisdom with us new folks. We ( or least I ) need all the help we can get.

Wow! Fryman, I'm touched. I do believe this is the first time I have seen you divulge any of your closely guarded marketing secrets. Nice one.

A little off topic but what size images are best for 1:layouts and 2 comments etc.
I have literally thousands of great wallpapers and pics and want to start doing my own instead of buying them.
Thanks
Rob.............err I mean MK:clown:

Layouts, if it's a full image background layout, at least 900px high. Width, whatever you want as long as the page bgcolor matches the background.

For comments I suggest using small images. I hate when someone posts a stupid image of 500 pixels that messes up the whole profile. My comment images are usually 250 or 300 in width

Wise words from a guy who spends 18k a month was it? On advertising?

Hmm is it strange you get alot of visititors? What did you do the first week when you started the site, how did you build it up? What was your strategy? etc, etc?

Offcourse alllll those small new / sites or call them business can add 100000000 of uniuqe images but what does it help if nobody uses them?

Offcourse if somebody did do that and added 100000000 alot of new images and graphics maybe they wood get some notice from other sites?

But for me or any other new myspace site owner, it*s hard!

I have been working on developing the site for weeks adding content, designs, images, layouts, generators, buying generators and so on and so on!

I did do some bulletins with my 10k account to test it out, but i dont think that any one expected to do that and sit back and watch the MONEY RULE IN!

1: Offcourse you have to have something to offer to get returning visitors!
2: You have to spend money to make money!
3: Unique content!
4: Generators << are beeeeeeing used alot of these days!

But fryman as for your post, why dont you add alittle more info?

Or replay on your PM*s??

Thx!

300, like fryman said, is usually a good maximum size for glitters.

another thing i've found is uniqueness of phrases. For instance this site and particular glitter phrase:
http://ohmyspace.com/commentpagepoop.html

i've seen this on quite a few of my friend's profiles left as comments, and its never been a comment like this from any other site, because no other site i know of has this particular phrase and theme of glitter. its funny and unique, so everytime a visitor wants to poo on someones page, then this is the only site they'll turn to, since its the only site with it.

Then theres the copiers who will take your phrase and make their own, but at least you'll be the first, and if your site is the first site they like with it, chances are, they'll stay with it.

lol, yeah. Lots of people like to post nice comments, but remember that there is always the typical teen that wants to act funny and post some dumb comment on the profile of his buddy. Funny, witty and maybe a bit insulting comments are always popular.

Just remember not to cross the border, if you offer really insulting or vulgar stuff you could get your url banned from Myspace

If that isn't evidence of the decline of western civilization, I don't know what is...

For my 'Ted Hat' myspace account I disable ALL html on my comments. I am sick and tired of teens dropping ugly graphics, especially the oversized graphics and video clips. And what is annoying is that these graphics are loaded with hyperlinks and the like. And those grapics make the page load very slowly. My page is for MY links only; its not a linkfarm.

Yeah, I selected all comments to be approved before going live. That way I deny any images from other sites and just allow people that are posting one of mine.

people seldom leave me image comments, its usually an inside joke or two, but nothing really major exept on holidays.
i however, promote any and all sites i like by leaving image comments to my friends.

*Bulletins are still a good way to target users if you have targted the correct demographic to start with when adding friends, sure if you have made friend accounts via whore trains and just random adders then your accouns will suck for sure, but if you have a highly targted group who you send bulletins to then they work well for myspace sites as they get your message out their and in turn crate repeat visitors.

*Image comments are a good way to promote sites yes but heaps of people have banned the use of html on their accounts, but it still can be a effective way of doing things.

The correct way to advertise your MSRS is do some of the things eveyr one else is doing but also diversify youtself and do other things people are not doing =) think out side the square a little.

This is nothing new - it's an age old tactic. There is a saying "content is king" for a reason.

I think a prize for an ipod or common shop vouchers or something would be good (maybe amazon vouchers so its worldwide or something). I think that would attract a few new visitors if it was advertised right :P

I wouldnt offer a ipod its too much of a spammey prize..

I would offer something like gifvouchers or something... to a popular shopping center...

something where the winner can choose their own prize becuase every one already has ipods now days....
