View Full Version : What's a good realistic CTR?

Hey, I'm pretty sure disclosing your Adsense etc click rate is a no no, but I'm not doing that and neither should you to be safe!
My question is, from a MySpace site, what should you expect click rate to be, obviously a good click rate would be high, like 40%, but realistically. So what would be realistic?
is 2% bad?
is 5% the norm?
is 10% good?
is 20% super?
Remember obviously 20%+ would be super (according to my scientific list above), but I am talking realistically, from experience you have had. Is 20% unrealisitic? What should someone expect from text ads (Adsense) placed in the 'MySpace site standard' places, similar to MSRS and the others?

no I think around 5-7% is good on a decent amount of traffic...
20% is more MFA style imo...

I forgot to mention traffic, let's say 5k unqiues per day for low amount and 20k a day for medium and 70k for high. If you can relate what would be good/expected as far as CTR goes for each or just one of those figures it would be great and useful.

I think around 7% is good, I know I'm really happy whenever it's over 10%.
It's funny how the sites differ though. ... one of mine is around 2/3% ....four are around 7% ...... another is consistantly around 12% and the best is over 15% 80% of the time.
Now five of these are MSRS sites so they are pretty much identical ..... the major difference is that the one with the highest CTR receives most of it's traffic from links from other Myspace type sites.
That pretty much proves that people who arrive at your site via links are much more likely to click on a link to leave the site.

Thanks for the input guys.
Most of my content/links/text is layouts, so most of my ads are about layouts. I think I need to start changing and adding glitter/codes words etc into my site, it might change the ads and pay me higher, because curently I get around over double CTR money_train, but over $1 less CPM. Would a more varied Ad content improve my CPM, example, MySpace Layouts seems to pay poorly, so would Codes pay more?
I surf onto other sites and see them displaying a more varied range of Adsense adverts - still MySpace related ones but a wider variety.

I run 300x250 at the top.
In the middle a link unit, the horizontal line of links.
And a 250x230 at the bottom.
Edit: I changed the top ad to 336x280, more/different ads are being displayed. I noticed most other sites were running this sites instead of the medium rectangle I previously used.

I do see the 2.70 almost daily except for one of my sites which will have a huge CPM like 4-6 bucks and the other will be 2.70> to 1.90 but never lower.
I wish I could redirect all sites of mine to my high CPM when I spot it for the day.. lol ..example send all my site (related) to that higher earings with a .htaccess
I am sure the spiders would hate it but I get 12 cent vs 2 cents a day. But it seems very risky to say the least.

$80 cpm? Yes please. If the sites are different topics then the cpm makes sense. If they are all the same topic, then that is odd.
My MySpace CTR and CPM, after adjusting a few things today, it is now an acceptable $3+ CPM and a 15%+ CTR. Still increasing. Thanks for your help guys.

Is ctr good with greg's script while using ypn? I've been wondering, since users look at the words before clicking

Heres the CPM from two more of my sites at the end of the day ... $435.20 ... $317.33.
If the sites are different topics then the cpm makes sense. If they are all the same topic, then that is odd.
At the end of the day the CPM on my MSRS sites ranges from .57 to $6.26 (similar sites, similer content, same topic, same meta tags and descriptions...... during the day the variations were hugh at times, as I said before it makes no sense whatsoever.

CPM or in this case eCPM is a way of converting CPC into the more traditional CPM format for comparison. (ie what you Effective(ly) make per 1,000 visitors)
It will vary widely.
my "template site that everyone has" has a CTR of about 2-4% most days, my MSRS sites have different, one is around 4-5%, one is around 8-9%, and one is 11-15%

sometimes my CTR goes upto 15% for certain ad units and ECPM fluctuates more then the price of a euro. the same site can have $4 one day and $0.50 the next.

It is now like the stock market ..up and down on demand

Except not quite on demand, more random. If it was on demand I'd set mine to 'PAY ME LOADS' all the time.

Don't forget traffic origine also comes into play.
If your site is of good enough quality or old enough to get a lot of repeat visitors your ecpm will drop. Repeat visitors don't click on ads as much.
Search engine traffic on the other hand converts very well.
If you've found the optimal ad placement, I wouldn't worry too much about ecpm just focus on getting more and more visistors.

I am rather annoyed by my 2.5% adsense ctr on zoodu.com. Can maybe make $10 per day with 3000 uniques.
Really not so happy. Moved over more towards CPM advertising because of it.
PS: first post here btw, hello
