Awesome news!

I checked Tom's account the other day, made a quick mental note of his friend count, refreshed the page all within about 3 seconds and his friends had increased by 3100. So MySpace got 1000 new sign ups in a second! Of course many might have profiles already but I'd guess at the very worst that's 100 completely new users a second.

(Tom can be used to find the amount of new users because he is auto-added to their friend list when they join, so the increase is 'real time sign ups'.)

so this is obviously completely irrelevant to the topic, but i wanted to check out davidr's insight on tom's account for myself, and here's what i recorded, each time i refreshed, which was about every 3 seconds.

Tom has 127618110 friends.
Tom has 127617181 friends.
Tom has 127616676 friends.
Tom has 127611077 friends.
Tom has 127614416 friends.
Tom has 127618766 friends.
Tom has 127618299 friends.
Tom has 127616463 friends.
Tom has 127616463 friends.
Tom has 127616563 friends.
Tom has 127616563 friends.
Tom has 127618901 friends.
Tom has 127616656 friends.

his friend count goes up and down so much.
the decreases must be deleting of accounts by the users and by myspace officials.
but its strange the counts go down so much so quickly. i could understand going up so quickly...but down.

In reaction to this thread, i guess its good news for the asians but i really don't see how it could be beneficial to us. unless it got very popular like myspace, in which case it might be another booming site where a site resource site in the different asian languages might prove beneficial.

Good point I didn't think of deletions not such an accurate source then.

^^I forgot about that. I, too, am guilty of deleting Tom.

The same happens when you look at the total number of accounts at the top of your myspace page.

Your Network:
127,764,038

It changes all the time, up and down.
Two months ago they hit 100 million .... it's grown by 27 million since then.

Now if we could hook onto the members as they join up :happybday: .

Think outside the box and you might come up with a way.....

Has anybody noticed if keeping Tom on their account caused problems or helped in any way?

From my experience it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Tom has become a legend in his own time..he doesn't even need a last name..you just say the name Tom on the streets and people go.."oh..myspace?"..but how many of them can name a president?

Hmm, they're a lot of different tom's in our area.:? :? He might be a legend in some places, though.

I think a lot of these user signups that you see aren't natural. I'd say 70% fake - 30% real.

Tom is just the default friend, You don't need him on your friend's list unless you want to see the bulletins advertising bands, myspace parties or other myspace events :) :ninja:
