I want to add a forum to my myspace site. Anyone done this and found success with members actually staying and posting if you make good topics and forum sections related to owning a myspace page?

Very few sites seem to have success doing this.

Some of the big sites have nice active forums, but I can't think of a smaller site that I have visited that has a forum that doesn't look like a ghost town.

I had forums on some of my sites but forwarded that traffic here to sign up. More gurus here and someone is almost always on to help.

I've had a forum on my site since the start and although there were a few real signups and post almost all of it is just spambots hitting it. I used phpbb since it's easy to install and free but an easy target for the spambots.

Maybe if you have a huge amount of traffic and can push those people there and they get active right away, it would work. Otherwise it's really hard to build a decent community off that type of site. I've been planning on removing my internal links for a while now and will probably just do what PGZ does and forward it here.

I have ahd one you get a few people asking questions about things on the site, probelms with things on myspace etc etc...

I guess if you have heaps of traffic it could be effective, MY GEN seems to have a massive forum, its also a effective way of getting a mailing list from a demographic that is interested in your site, this is just another marketing idea generated by forums.

Exactly, you would need to have loads of traffic so your forum is active, no one likes to visit a forum where the last post was 3 weeks ago

You would also have to LOVE having a forum, since it is real hard work. Moderating it, fixing problems, replying to threads where no one else has replied...

And, of course, forums are tough as hell to monetize.
